The City of SeaTac, Washington, seeks a skilled professional to serve as its next Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will be responsible for organizing the City’s communications needs, leading and inspiring a team of communications professionals, building relationships, and creating opportunities to ‘show not tell’ the SeaTac Story in a manner that fosters high trust, accountability, and an empowered workplace environment that’s committed to professional excellence. The SeaTac Communications Division is centered within the City Manager’s Office. Positions reporting to the Communications Manager include a Digital Communications Strategist and a Community Outreach Strategist. The Communications Manager is responsible for providing management, leadership and direction to the Communications team members and overseeing contract engagements with third-party vendors, firms and professionals to ensure effectiveness and professional excellence in City communications.
The City of SeaTac recognizes that access to formal education varies widely. Relevant professional experience, community leadership, or lived experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirements listed below. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or closely related field; and 8 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public/community relations, journalism, or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job may be considered. Prior supervisory experience is desirable. Previous experience working in communications or community relations at a city, county, or other public employer is also desirable. An advanced degree is desirable.
The annual salary range for this position is $122,489 to $156,797 DOQE. Longevity begins after 5 years of service and increases every 5 years up to 25 years of service with the City. Eligible employees have the option to receive longevity pay each month, either as additional compensation or in the form of additional floating holiday hours. Additionally, the City will offer an employment agreement that may include moving and relocation expenses. The City of SeaTac also provides an attractive comprehensive benefits package.
